Once upon a time, an Angel came by and looking down to Earth at the struggling people, he considered helping some of them…
One of the chosen lucky ones was me, Lorenzo, your humbled servant and loyal friend. I’m also an artist and a painter, but not a house painter (I use to do that long ago when I was in dire need of money) – so I’m one of those people who don’t believe in "starving artist" expression. I mostly paint people and they call me a figurative or portrait artist.
Before painting I always draw or sketch the subject using pencils, charcoals, pastels or a type of sepia color called "conté". Sometimes I accentuate the details using black charcoal and white chalk. This is an old drawing technique called "Trois Crayons" generated many years ago during the Italian Renaissance but mostly used in 17th and 18th century France.
So, going back to my Guardian Angel, he came to rescue me exactly when my grueling pains of not finding the right images were driving me to the edge. The project was to find the best representation for the 12 zodiac signs, using their various symbols and significances. And God knows, I tried tons of different images, used many different models, lots of sketches and drawings but nothing was really coming close to my heart. Until one day…

I was sketching a commissioned portrait of a young man. The portrait was to be a surprise from the boy’s father who provided me with several photographs. One of them was showing the boy playing football… this is the one I was drawing from when I began playing around adding wings, changing the ball shape and basically transforming the portrait in an ANGEL FROM HEAVEN! After that it was just a joy to add and adjust symbols and colors to achieve the right representation of each zodiac sign. This is the story of how I was blessed by heaven to bring one of the Angels back to Earth for joy and beauty. I hope that My Zodiac Angel will touch you heart as well! |
